Warwick Castle

This dramatic fortress rises majestically from the banks of the River Avon, only a few miles from Shakespeare's Stratford on a site first fortified by William the Conqueror in 1068. The Castle is now widely regarded as the finest mediaeval castle in England - a magnificent blend of history, mystery and splendour. Join a mediaeval household as it makes ready for final battle in Kingmaker or enter the eerie Ghost Tower if you dare. The one time home of Sir Fulke Greville is said to house his restless soul. To retain an air of the macabre, venture into the bowls of the castle and fell the chill of the grisly Dungeon and Torture Chamber. In the Great Hall you will come face to face with Oliver Cromwells death mask. Then tread into the 17th and 18th century state rooms. With the same visible decorum hiding a little intrigue, the Royal weekend Party 1898 leads us into the social whirl of Daisy, Countess of Warwick and the Marlborough set.
